Understand the basics of Dominoes

Take a moment with Dominoes before moving to another game. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

One thing to notice as you play

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Notice the feedback after each input.

What counts as success

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Using the playing area

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

An example to follow

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Where a round can go wrong

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
