Read before your next round of Crossword

Try Crossword at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. Use the example below to understand a decision. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Solve 24 connected 15×15 layouts with 11–20 entries each. Use the original English clues and scroll the board on narrow screens; completed layouts may appear again.

Give this approach a try

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.

What the game asks you to do

Fill every open square so the intersecting Across and Down answers match their clues. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Start with a deliberate move.

From the start of a round

  1. Choose a numbered Across or Down clue to highlight its answer.
  2. Select a square and type a letter, or use the on-screen alphabet.
  3. Shared letters belong to both crossing answers. Selecting a shared square twice changes direction.
  4. Use Check entries to review entered letters. Reveal selected supplies one letter and counts as help.
  5. Complete every open square to solve the puzzle. Dark squares are not filled.

Using the playing area

Select a clue or square. Use your physical keyboard or the on-screen letters, Erase, Check entries and Reveal selected. Scroll within the board on a narrow screen. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Look at the feedback after the action.

An example before you play

For “The planet on which we live” with five squares, enter EARTH. Any crossing answer must use the same letter at the shared square. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Take a moment to compare.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Do not fill dark squares. A letter that fits one answer must also fit the crossing clue. Compare the situation with the worked example. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
